Paramount Rocks

Paramount Theater invites audiences to stick it to the man and live hardcore with their tremendous production, “School of Rock”. Audiences will remember the hit film starring Jack Black; the movie was great but I actually prefer the stage version – it’s fun and uplifting. Exquisitely directed by the incredible Trent Stork, Paramount’s “School of Rock” is simply fabulous. Upbeat and high energy with great sets and innovative use of lighting this show certainly does rock.

In the lead role of Dewey is the enormously talented Nick Druzbanski. Nick is a Chicago favorite for good reason: he makes the character his own, lovable and realistic. His vocals and comic timing are spot-on and his rapport with the children in the show is  amazing. Mr. Druzbanski was last seen in “Rock of Ages” at Paramount. Speaking of those children, the entire group of kids are magnificent, group numbers are well executed, each child is outstanding and unique.

Jackson Evans as Ned has enormous stage presence, his stellar characterization is both sincere and strong, giving both depth and humor to his role. Paramount goers will remember him as the suave Lumiere in Beauty of the Beast.  (He can sure push cars, too.)  Playing Rosalie is the pretty Veronica Garza, her stellar vocals and character transformation make for very interesting scene changes. Patty is brought to life by Lucy Godinez; she is both convincing and entertaining.

The show has wonderful musical numbers, fun costumes, and many comedic moments. I like the subtle messages of non-conformity, the importance of friendship, and listening to our childrens’ voices. No review of this performance would be complete without a mention of the fabulous Paramount band that brings us the magnificent music, in addition to the band kids, who do their own awesome instrumental and vocal work.

Paramount always gives a wonderful theater going experience and “School of Rock” does not disappoint. I highly recommend (it’s Jeff recommended, as well) this rambunctious and well executed theatrical work. This show plays it’s last set on June 4th, so rush to get your seats.
