June 1-June 30 – Community Voices: Pride Art Exhibit – Come and see art from local LGBTQIA+ artists at the library! The library is hosting an event to highlight community voices, and this month we are focusing on Pride and LGBTQIA+ artists. Art can be viewed all month throughout the library. Stop by and check it out if you have a chance.

June 1 – Storypalooza – Start your week off with Franklin Park Library as we enjoy stories, songs, and rhymes together! Ages 0-5 with caregiver. 11:00-11:30 AM

June 1 – Rainbow Macrame Keychains – Come make a cute little keychain out of rope and yarn to spread a smile to keys or a bag. Limit 20. 5:00-6:00 PM

June 2 – Rockin’ Tots – Dance, sing, and get rowdy in our music and movement toddler program! Ages 0-5 with caregiver. 11:00-11:30 AM

June 2 – Read with Me – Join us for a new book club for older kids! We’ll explore books that tackle big ideas and challenging topics, reading selected passages together during the program and talking about them as a group. No need to read the book in advance. If you’d like to keep reading afterward, you can check out a copy to take home. Grades 3-8 with caregiver. 6:00-7:30 PM

June 3 – Library Quilt & Sew Club – Join us for casual discussion about quilting and sewing projects and techniques. We embrace all skills and levels. 10:00 AM – 12:00 PM

June 3 – Radio Goes to War – World War II was the first war in history to receive almost continuous coverage on radio. Join host of Those Were the Days and the publisher of Nostalgia Digest Steve Darnall for a one-hour presentation that examines how radio rose to the challenge of life during wartime, with sound clips from news broadcasts, presidential speeches, entertainment shows, programs designed to boost morale (both at home and among the armed forces), and more! 6:00-7:30 PM

June 3 – Getting Started with AI – Learn the basics of Artificial Intelligence (AI) tools such as ChatGPT and Apple Intelligence, and learn what they can do well and what they do poorly. Also learn how to spot AI-generated photos, videos, and misinformation. 7:00-8:00 PM

June 4 – Community Voices: Pride Art Exhibit Gala – In celebration of our Community Voices: Pride Art Exhibit, the library would like to invite you to an opening gala. The gala will offer a chance to see the exhibit off library hours, enjoy refreshments, and meet the artists. Artists are not required to attend, but are encouraged. Formal attire is not required, but if anyone would like to dress up, then you are more than welcome to do so. Feel free to drop by and see the amazing art that local LGBTQIA+ artists worked so hard to create and found the courage to display. 7:30-9:30 PM

June 5 – Scales-N-Tales Storytime – Start your Friday morning off at the library with a fun storytime all about animals. A new animal will be featured each week. Ages 0-5 with caregiver. 11:00-11:30 AM

June 5 – Rainbow Storytime – Join us for a special storytime celebrating self-expression, identity, and the LGBTQIA+ community featuring dynamic performer America Powers. A special rainbow-themed craft will be included. 5:00-6:00 PM

June 8 – Pride in Chicago: A History – Join us to learn about how queer Chicagoans have celebrated Pride throughout the years! 5:30-6:30 PM

June 9 – Sensory Playtime – Join us for sensory playtime! We will have different tactile and sensory experiences for young kids to learn and engage with together. Each week we will have different stations focused on the different senses. Ages 0-5 with caregiver. 11:00 AM – 12:00 PM

June 9 – Brew Crew –  Come to Brew Crew at the Library to learn to brew and taste test different types of Coffee! Open to teens  & adults. 2:00-3:00 PM

June 10 – Senior Cafe – Join us for coffee, some sweet treats, games, and conversation. Find out and enjoy what the library has to offer our seniors. Ages 55 & up. 9:30-11:30 AM

June 10 – Accessibility Features of Your Phone, Tablet, & PC – Learn how to adjust the settings on your phone, tablet or laptop to best suit your needs and abilities. 11:30 AM – 1:00 PM

June 10 – Teen Cuisine – Cook your own delicious meals and treats with us! Learn basic cooking skills and a delicious new recipe every meetup. This month, we’re making Mocktails. All cooking skills are welcome. Registration is required. Grades 6-12. 4:30-5:30 PM

June 11 – Polish Storytime – Join The Language Labs’ presenter, Bernadetta, as she teaches, sings songs, plays games, and offers crafts in Polish. Ages 2-8 with caregiver. 11:00-11:30 AM

June 11 – Ready, Set, Game! – Join us for a fun, social gaming hangout where kids will play favorites like Smash Bros, Mario Kart World, Gang Beasts & high-energy board games like Taco Cat Goat Cheese Pizza and Steal the Bacon! Snacks and drinks are provided, just bring your game face! Grades 2-5. 5:00-6:30 PM

June 12 – BINGO hosted by Candi Forest! – Grab some friends and join us for a fun and fabulous bingo night! Get ready to be entertained by talented local drag queen Candi Forest! Ages 16 & up. Limit 25. 6:00-8:00 PM

June 13 – Library Blood Drive – Save some lives this summer by giving blood at the library with Versiti Blood Centers! 10:00 AM – 2:00 PM

June 13 – Knit & Crochet Group – Relax and work on a project or receive basic instruction from experienced crafters. New members are welcome, and basic supplies and tools are provided. 1:00-3:00 PM

June 15 – The Big Balloonosaur Adventure! – Smarty Pants is back to take your youth audience back to the fabled Age of Dinosaurs with this all-new dinosaur themed Big Balloon Show program! It’s packed with magic, comedy, Smarty’s trademark “dinosaur” sized balloons and, of course, a healthy dash of paleontology. Guaranteed to thrill all your young dinosaur fans, and make plenty of new ones! 4:00-5:00 PM

June 15 – True Crime Brew Time Book Club – Explore the dark side of nonfiction while enjoying fresh brewed tea and snacks. This month, we’re discussing What Is a Girl Worth?: My Story of Breaking the Silence and Exposing the Truth about Larry Nassar and USA Gymnastics by Rachael Denhollander. Copies of the book can be checked out at the Circulation Desk a month before the meeting date. Registration is strongly encouraged. 5:00-6:00 PM

June 16 – Tinker Tots – Get your wiggles out with a toddler playtime! Different toys and games will be available each session. Registration is required. Ages 0-5 with caregiver. 11:00 AM – 12:00 PM

June 16 – Flirty Fiction Romance Book Club – Are you a defender of the HEA (Happily Ever After)? Join us to read a different romance book each month, talk about our favorite tropes, and find some new ones! 5:30-7:30 PM

June 16 – Chef Dave Esau Father’s Day Special: Awesome Chicken Dinners for Dad – Chef Dave comes to Franklin Park Library bringing tasty treats to show dad some love! Dave’s engaging cooking demonstration will feature professional techniques, chef prep tips and top notch ingredients. Chicken schnitzel, classic cordon bleu and the best chicken salad will be prepared. Dave’s energy and years of experience is not to be missed! Limit 50. Registration is required. 6:00-8:30 PM

June 17 – Spanish Storytime – Join The Language Labs for stories, games, songs, and crafts in Spanish. Spanish speakers are encouraged to attend, but you do not have to be a current speaker to enjoy this program. Ages 2-8 with caregiver. 11:00-11:30 AM

June 17 – Café y Conversaciones – ¡Ven y visítenos para tomar un cafecito y charlar! En este programa, invitamos a personas mayores hispanohablantes a la biblioteca para pasar un rato conociendo a otras personas en su comunidad. Toma un café y una merienda, juega unos juegos de mesa, y conoce a nuevos amigos. 11:00 AM – 12:00 PM

June 17 – Getting Started with Google Docs – Learn how to use Google Drive, which includes Google Docs, Google Sheets and Google Slides. 7:00-8:00 PM

June 18 – BYOBook Club – Bring in a book you’re currently reading or one of your favorites to share with everyone. Give a little book talk or just share some of your favorite quotes/parts, we’re here to learn more about books of all genres! Registration is recommended. 1:00-2:00 PM

June 18 – Let’s Paint! – For artists of all levels. Grab your paint brushes and join Ms. Mariela for an afternoon of creative, colorful, paint-smeared fun! Grades 2-8. 5:00-6:00 PM

June 20  – Paint-N-Sip – Let your inner artist loose to create a masterpiece! A delicious, non-alcoholic beverage will also be served. Teens & adults only. Limit 25. Registration is required. 1:00-3:00 PM

June 20 – Comic Book Club – Join us to talk about your favorite comics and superheroes, and even make your own! We’ll have prepared tips for making all types of comics, and art supplies will be provided. Grades K-5. 2:00-3:00 PM

June 22 – Anime/K-Drama & Ramen – Do you love to watch Anime? Do you love to watch K-Dramas? Do you love to eat ramen? OR have you always wanted to watch Anime/K-Drama and eat ramen, but didn’t know where to start? Then this is the program for you! When you register, be sure to vote on which Anime or K-Drama you want to watch! Grades 6-12. 4:30-6:30 PM

June 23 – Read to a Dog – Give your child the chance to practice their reading skills in a judgment-free space! Each child is given a private 10-minute session where they will read to Joey the Corgi a book of their choice. Time slots given on a first-come, first-serve basis. Ages 4 & up with caregiver. 4:30-6:00 PM

June 23 – Soundbath Meditation – Soundbath Yin is a gentle, restorative Yoga practice with Crystal Singing bowls. Students will move through deep, regenerative poses while bathing in the relaxing, ambient sounds and vibrations of Crystal, and Tibetan Singing Bowls. 7:00-8:00 PM

June 24 – Senior Cafe – Join us for coffee, some sweet treats, games, and conversation. Find out and enjoy what the library has to offer our seniors. Ages 55 & up. 9:30-11:30 AM

June 24 – Teen Faux Stained Glass Painting – Create your own beautiful faux stained glass painting! In this hands-on workshop, you’ll use paint, glue, and stencils to design a stunning stained-glass-inspired piece. Grades 6-12. Registration is required. 4:30-5:30 PM

June 25 – LEGO Librarians – Come and join the snap together squad as we build LEGO sets to decorate the library. From Star Wars, to Zelda, to dinosaur fossils, we’re excited to build all the crazy big LEGO sets that you’ve always dreamed of building. Registration is required. Ages 11 and up. 4:00-5:00 PM

June 25 – Kids & Krafts – Join us for creative kids crafts where children can enjoy a fun hands-on activity with a project to take home! Limit 24. Registration is required. Grades K & up. 5:00-6:00 PM

June 29 – Cook the Book Club – If you’ve ever wished that book clubs focused less on the book and more on the food, this is the club for you! Every month, each member will pick a recipe from a previously selected book to prepare and bring into the book club. This month’s book is Salsa Daddy by Rick Martinez. The resulting potluck is the perfect opportunity to discuss the cookbook with others and try fun foods! Registration is required. 6:00-7:30 PM

June 30 – Elder Neglect, Abuse, and Exploitation – Join us for a special lecture with attorney and elder law advocate, Michael Delaney, who will use his experience and knowledge to discuss how the elderly are frequently the target of scams, fraud, and theft. These threats come from many directions, from overseas scam mills to people in the community and even the elder’s own family. He will discuss ways on how you can protect yourself and your loved ones, and what victims can do if this happens to them. Michael Delaney is passionate about sharing his decades of knowledge, experience, and insights in elder law with local communities. 6:00-7:00 PM
