LuPone Brings Acclaimed Concert Show to Auditorium
By Wes Hessel
She’s done numerous films, television, and appeared on stages from LA and San Fran, to Washington DC, Sydney, London’s West End, and, of course, Broadway. The showcase of sound she will perform Saturday, January 31st, at the Auditorium Theatre has a 25 year history of it’s own. Along the way the vocal powerhouse has collected three Tony’s: for her role of Joanne in a Marianne Elliott version of Sondheim’s seminal classic “Company”, playing Madame Rose in a ‘08 revival of “Gypsy”, and as the original Argentinian icon Eva Peron on Broadway in the title role of “Evita”. She also has received five more Tony noms; two Olivier Awards, and a third nomination as Norma Desmond in “Sunset Boulevard”; two Grammy’s; and is a two-time Emmy nominee.
Patti LuPone has been performing concerts like this for over 45 years, appearing in the footlights for almost a decade more, having graduated as a member of the first Drama Division class at Julliard, alongside David Ogden Stiers and Kevin Kline. “Matters of the Heart”, the concert collection Ms. LuPone will perform this coming Saturday, has been heralded highly by the New York Post, AP, Sunday Telegraph of London, and the Sydney Telegraph, amongst others.
