May 1 – Scales-N-Tales Storytime – Start your Friday morning off at the library with a fun storytime all about animals. A new animal will be featured each week. Ages 0-5 with caregiver. 11:00-11:30 AM

May 1 – Game On – Take your gaming to the next level! Join our video game program to play new and classic games, participate in friendly competitions, and win prizes. Registration is strongly encouraged. Grades 6-12. 5:00-6:30 PM

May 4 – Storypalooza – Start your week off with Franklin Park Library as we enjoy stories, songs, and rhymes together! Ages 0-5 with caregiver. 11:00-11:30 AM

May 4 – Painted Mushroom Sculpture Craft – Paint some wooden mushrooms and then assemble them on a wood slice to make a cute sculpture right out of a fairy tale! Limit 20. Registration is required. 5:00-6:00 PM

May 5 – Rockin’ Tots – Dance, sing, and get rowdy in our music and movement toddler program! Ages 0-5 with caregiver. 11:00-11:30 AM

May 5 – Read with Me – Join us for a new book club for older kids! We’ll explore books that tackle big ideas and challenging topics, reading selected passages together during the program and talking about them as a group. No need to read the book in advance. If you’d like to keep reading afterward, you can check out a copy to take home. Grades 3-8 with caregiver. Registration is required. 6:00-7:30 PM

May 5 – Introduction to Filipino Cooking – Explore the culinary landscape of the Philippines with Chef Kathy Hardy, owner of the renowned, Chicago-based restaurant, A Taste of the Philippines. Chef Hardy will demonstrate how to make Chicken Adobo and lead an interactive Lumpia wrapping session. Samples will be provided of these classic, beloved Filipino dishes. Limit 30. Registration is required. 6:00-8:00 PM

May 6 – Library Quilt & Sew Club – Join us for casual discussion about quilting and sewing projects and techniques. We embrace all skills and levels. 10:00 AM – 12:00 PM

May 6 – Floral Pop-Up Card Workshop – Bring May flowers into your home to stay! Join paper engineer Shawn Sheehy in building three cheerful blooms—violet, rose and tulip—using just a few hand tools and a kit of pre-cut pieces. You’ll assemble the structures while gaining insights into paper engineering and paper sculpture. Beginners welcome! Limit 20. Registration is required. 6:30-8:00 PM

May 7 – Let’s Paint! – For artists of all levels. Grab your paint brushes and join Ms. Mariela for an afternoon of creative, colorful, paint-smeared fun! Grades 2-8. 5:00-6:00 PM

May 9 – Teen Volunteer Day  – Do you need volunteer hours for school, church, or a club? We’ll have various projects for you to do. Snacks and drinks will be provided. Grades 6-12. 9:30 AM – 3:30 PM

May 9 – Knit & Crochet Group – Relax and work on a project or receive basic instruction from experienced crafters. New members are welcome, and basic supplies and tools are provided. 1:00-3:00 PM

May 11 – Storypalooza – Start your week off with Franklin Park Library as we enjoy stories, songs, and rhymes together! Ages 0-5 with caregiver. 11:00-11:30 AM

May 12 – Sensory Playtime – Join us for sensory playtime! We will have different tactile and sensory experiences for young kids to learn and engage with together. Each week we will have different stations focused on the different senses. Ages 0-5 with caregiver. 11:00 AM – 12:00 PM

May 12 – Brew Crew: Espresso – Come to the Library to learn to brew and taste test different types of Espresso! Registration is not required and walk-ins are acceptable. Open to teens & adults. 2:00-3:00 PM

May 13 – Senior Café – Join us for coffee, some sweet treats, games, and conversation. Find out and enjoy what the library has to offer our seniors. No registration is required. Ages 55 & up. 9:30-11:30 AM

May 13 – Accessibility Features of Your Phone, Tablet, & PC – Learn how to adjust the settings on your phone, tablet or laptop to best suit your needs and abilities. 11:30 AM – 1:00 PM

May 13 – Teen Cuisine – Cook your own delicious meals and treats with us! Learn basic cooking skills and a delicious new recipe every meetup. This month, we’re making Pop Tarts. All cooking skills are welcome. Registration is required. Grades 6-12. 4:30-5:30 PM

May 14 – Ready, Set, Game! – Join us for a fun, social gaming hangout where kids will play favorites like Smash Bros, Mario Kart World, Gang Beasts & high-energy board games like Taco Cat Goat Cheese Pizza and Steal the Bacon! Snacks and drinks are provided, just bring your game face! Grades 2-5. 5:00-6:30 PM

May 16 – Life with Bees: Pollinators in Your Community – Join us to celebrate and learn about bees and the plants they love! Presented by the Franklin Park Bee Board. 10:00-11:30 AM

May 16 – Trailside Museum Tour and Nature Play – Join us for a STEM field trip to Trailside Museum of Natural History! We will tour the museum and the surrounding area, including getting to see their ambassador animals up close. Then enjoy time running wild and free in their outdoor Nature Play Area! We will meet on-site at the Museum located at 738 Thatcher Ave, River Forest, IL 60305, just a 15 minute drive from the Library. Note: The Library will not provide transportation to this event. 1:30-3:30 PM

May 18 – True Crime Brew Time Book Club – Explore the dark side of nonfiction while enjoying fresh brewed tea and snacks. This month, we’re discussing American Reich: A Murder in Orange County, Neo-Nazis, and a New Age of Hate by Eric Lichtblau. Copies of the book can be checked out at the Circulation Desk a month before the meeting date. Registration is strongly encouraged. 5:00-6:00 PM

May 19 – Tinker Tots – Get your wiggles out with a toddler playtime! Different toys and games will be available each session. Registration is required. Ages 0-5 with caregiver. 11:00 AM – 12:00 PM

May 19 – Flirty Fiction Romance Book Club – Are you a defender of the HEA (Happily Ever After)? Join us to read a different romance book each month, talk about our favorite tropes, and find some new ones! 5:30-7:30 PM

May 19 – Illinois Libraries Present: Babel-On with R.F. Kuang – Join us for a virtual conversation with the best selling author of genre-bending fiction such as Katabasis, Yellowface, and Babel, R.F. Kuang. This is a virtual program that will be offered via Zoom. 7:00-8:00 PM

May 20 – Café y Conversaciones – ¡Ven y visítenos para tomar un cafecito y charlar! En este programa, invitamos a personas mayores hispanohablantes a la biblioteca para pasar un rato conociendo a otras personas en su comunidad. Toma un café y una merienda, juega unos juegos de mesa, y conoce a nuevos amigos. 11:00 AM – 12:00 PM

May 20 – Spanish Storytime – Join The Language Labs as they bring Spanish Storytime to your Library! Enjoy stories, games, songs, and crafts in Spanish. Spanish speakers are encouraged to attend, but you do not have to be a current speaker to enjoy this program. Ages 2-8 with caregiver. 11:00-11:30 AM

May 20 – How to Junk Journal – Have you wanted to start a Junk Journal, but didn’t know how? Come and learn how at the Library! We’ll supply everything you need to get started. Already have a journal and some scraps? Bring those along! Ages 16 & up. Registration is required. 6:00-7:30 PM

May 20 – Popular Page Turners Book Club – Join us monthly for an evening of engaging conversation about popular books. This month, we are discussing Clark & Division by Naomi Hirahara. Copies of the book can be checked out at the Circulation Desk a month before the meeting date. Registration is required. 7:00-8:00 PM

May 21 – BYOBook Club – Bring in a book you’re currently reading or one of your favorites to share with everyone. Give a little book talk or just share some of your favorite quotes/parts, we’re here to learn more about books of all genres! Registration is recommended. 1:00-2:00 PM

May 21 – Perler Bead-It! – Create different Perler bead designs. We’ll provide different Perler bead colors and tools to help you get started! Grades 3-12. 4:00-6:00 PM

May 21 – Polish Storytime – Join The Language Labs’ presenter, Bernadetta, as she teaches, sings songs, plays games, and offers crafts in Polish. Ages 2-8 with caregiver. 6:00-6:30 PM

May 22 – Teen Taste Test – Take a snack-tacular journey around the world to find the best, the “meh”, and just plain weird that each country has to offer! Egg chips? Sweet corn puffs? Spanish chocolate? We try it all! For science! Registration is required. Grades 6-12.  4:30-5:30 PM

May 23 – Tomato Troubles – Troubleshoot your tomato troubles at the library! Presented by a University of Illinois Extension Master Gardener, this program will address common gardening issues that come with growing tomatoes. 11:00 AM – 12:00 PM

May 23 – Comic Book Club – Join us to talk about your favorite comics and superheroes, and even make your own! We’ll have prepared tips for making all types of comics, and art supplies will be provided. Grades K-5. 2:00-3:00 PM

May 26 – Sensory Playtime – Join us for sensory playtime! We will have different tactile and sensory experiences for young kids to learn and engage with together. Each week we will have different stations focused on the different senses. Ages 0-5 with caregiver. 11:00 AM – 12:00 PM

May 26 – Nursing Homes and At-Home Care – Join us for a special lecture with attorney and elder law advocate, Michael Delaney, who will use his experience and knowledge to answer questions about the transition from independence to structured care for those family members that can no longer safely care for themselves. 6:00-7:00 PM

May 26 – Cook the Book Club – If you’ve ever wished that book clubs focused less on the book and more on the food, this is the club for you! Every month, each member will pick a recipe from a previously selected book to prepare and bring into the book club. This month’s book is I am Filipino by Nicole Ponseca. The resulting potluck is the perfect opportunity to discuss the cookbook with others and try fun foods! Registration is required. 6:00-7:30 PM

May 27 – Senior Café – Join us for coffee, some sweet treats, games, and conversation. Find out and enjoy what the library has to offer our seniors. No registration is required. Ages 55 & up. 9:30-11:30 AM

May 27 – Moana Princess Party – Celebrate AAPI Heritage Month with a very special guest: Moana! Join us for a magical storytime, followed by a chance to take photos with her and bring home. May 27 – Getting Started with AI – Learn the basics of Artificial Intelligence (AI) tools such as ChatGPT and Apple Intelligence, and learn what they can do well and what they do poorly. Also learn how to spot AI-generated photos, videos, and misinformation. 7:00-8:00 PM

May 28 – LEGO Librarians – Come and join the snap together squad as we build LEGO sets to decorate the library. From Star Wars, to Zelda, to dinosaur fossils, we’re excited to build all the crazy big LEGO sets that you’ve always dreamed of building. Registration is required. Ages 11 and up. 4:00-5:00 PM

May 28 – Kids & Krafts – Join us for creative kids crafts where children can enjoy a fun hands-on activity with a project to take home! Limit 24. Registration is required. Grades K & up. 5:00-6:00 PM

May 30 – Summer Reading Challenge Kick-Off Party – Join us for our annual kick off to the Summer Reading Program with a party at the Library! There is fun to be had by all ages, whether it’s getting soapy and messy at the Foam Party (we recommend coming in mess-ready clothes), jumping on the bounce houses, dancing to music, eating delicious food, or one of the many other activities. We hope to see you there! 11:00 AM – 2:00 PM
