May 2 – Scales-N-Tales Storytime – Start your Friday morning off at the library with a fun storytime all about animals. A new animal will be featured each week. Ages 0-5 with caregiver. Registration is required. 11:00-11:30 AM
May 3 – Paint-N-Sip – Let your inner artist loose to create a masterpiece! A delicious, non-alcoholic beverage will also be served. Teens & adults only. Limit 20. Registration is required. 1:00-3:00 PM
May 3 – Illinois Libraries Present: Art & Adventures with Author/Illustrator Dan Santat – All ages can join bestselling author and illustrator Dan Santat for a virtual event all about books and art with friend and collaborator, author Minh Lê. This is a virtual program that will be offered via Zoom. 2:00-3:00 PM
May 5 – Storypalooza – Start your week off at the Library as we enjoy stories, songs, and rhymes together! Ages 0-5 with caregiver. Registration is required. 11:00-11:30 AM
May 5 – Chair Yoga – Chair Yoga classes are wonderful movement opportunities for any adult with limited mobility who wants to increase and maintain flexibility. Participate virtually with Susan Wilkens of Dancing Cranes Yoga in Riverside through Zoom or by phone. Registration is required. We will email you the Zoom & phone information the day before the program date. 3:00-4:00 PM
May 5 – Perler Bead-It! – Create different Perler bead designs. We’ll provide different Perler bead colors and tools to help you get started. Grades 3-12. Registration is required. 4:00-6:00 PM
May 6 – Tinker Tots – Get your wiggles out with a toddler playtime! Different toys and games each week. Ages 0-5 with caregiver. Registration is required. 11:00 AM – 12:00 PM
May 6 – Sci-Fi & Fantasy Book Club – Join us as we read and discuss a different science fiction or fantasy novel each month. This month, we are reading The Ministry of Time by Kaliane Bradley. 5:00-6 :00 PM
May 6 – Needle Felted Hedgehogs Craft – Try your hands at a new craft! Natasha Lehrer Lewis will join us to teach adults how to needle felt their very own cute spring hedgehog. Needle felting is a creative craft that involves sculpting shapes and figures using wool and special felting needles. It’s a simple yet versatile technique that allows you to create amazing creations with just a few supplies! Adults only. Limit 20. Registration is required. 6:00-7:00 PM
May 7 – Library Quilt & Sew Club – Join us for casual discussion about quilting and sewing projects and techniques. We embrace all skills and levels. 10:00 AM – 12:00 PM
May 7 – Bon Appetit – Try your hand at cooking! Come to the library and see the tastes we have in store for your future chefs. Grades 3-6. Registration is required. 5:00-6:00 PM
May 8 – Polish Storytime – Join The Language Labs’ presenter, Ada, as she teaches, sings songs, plays games, and offers crafts in Polish! Ages 2-8 with caregiver. Registration is required. 11:00 AM – 12:00 PM
May 8 – The Write Stuff – This writers’ workshop is a place where you can bring works in progress, push through writer’s block, or get started on something entirely new. Open to beginner and experienced writers alike, all are welcome to join. Each session will start with a prompt or activity, followed by time for free writing and sharing your work with others. 5:00-6:00 PM
May 8 – Ready, Set, Game! – Join us for an open gaming club with snacks! Come play retro and new video games, sometimes even board or card games. Grades 2-5. Registration is required. 5:00-6:30 PM
May 8 – Pollinators in Your Community – Join the Franklin Park Bee Committee and Tree Board to discuss the benefits of pollinators and how to help them thrive in your community. How do trees and pollinators interact and how can we help promote both? Learn more from University of Illinois Extension Master Naturalists. Our Village Arborist, Andy Smolen, will join us to talk about tree planting efforts in the village, tree care, and answer any questions about trees. 6:00-7:00 PM

May 13 – Rockin’ Tots – Dance, sing, and get rowdy during our music and movement toddler program! Ages 0-5 with caregiver. Registration is required. 11:00-11:30 AM
May 13 – Sensory Playtime – After getting rowdy at Rockin’ Tots, stick around for an open sensory playtime! We will have different tactile and sensory experiences for young kids to learn and engage with together. Ages 0-5 with caregiver. Registration is required. 11:30 AM – 12:00 PM
May 13 – Illinois Libraries Present: Poverty: A Discussion with Matthew Desmond – Join us to close out our fourth season with bestselling author Matthew Desmond in conversation with award-winning journalist, Natalie Moore. This is a virtual program that will be offered via Zoom. 7:00-8:00 PM
May 14 – Teen Cuisine – Cook your own delicious meals and treats with us! Learn basic cooking skills and a delicious new recipe every meetup. This month, we’re making Gnocchi. All cooking skills are welcome. Grades 6-12. 4:30-5:30 PM

May 17 – Friends of the Library Meeting – The Friends of the Library support the Franklin Park Library by providing volunteer services, sponsoring events, and funding programs. New members are always welcome! 10:30-11:30 AM

May 19 – Cook the Book Club – If you’ve ever wished that book clubs focused less on the book and more on the food, this is the club for you! Every month, each member will pick a recipe from a previously selected book to prepare and bring into the book club. This month’s book is Go-To Dinners by Ina Garten. The resulting potluck is the perfect opportunity to discuss the cookbook with others and try fun foods! 5:00-6:30 PM
May 20 – Flirty Fiction Romance Book Club – Are you a defender of the HEA (“happily ever after”)? Join us to read a different romance book each month, talk about our favorite tropes, and find some new ones! This month, we’re discussing The Last Letter by Rebecca Yarros. 5:30-7:30 PM
May 21 – Virtual Field Trip: Volcanoes – We are traveling to a volcano… virtually! Join us as we work together on activities exploring how volcanoes work. At the end we will build our own volcano! Grades K-5. Registration is required. 5:00-6:00 PM

May 30 – Friday Flicks – Join us each month to watch a newly released movie! This month’s movie is A Complete Unknown (R), starring Timothée Chalamet, Edward Norton, and Elle Fanning. Refreshments will also be provided. 1:00-3:30 PM
May 31 – Summer Reading Kick-Off Party – Join us for our annual kick off to the Summer Reading Program with a party at the Library! There is fun to be had by all ages, whether it’s getting soapy and messy at the Foam Party (we recommend coming in mess-ready clothes), jumping on the bounce houses, dancing to music, eating ice cream, or one of the many other activities.
