Ghostbusters Live Wows Audience

When you want great entertainment and an ectoplasmic good time, “who ya’ gonna’ call?” For Chitown audiences, the fabulous Chicago Philharmonic sure got the job done with “Ghostbusters Live in Concert”, a one-night theatrical extravaganza at the beautiful Auditorium Theatre. A pre-show reception with in-costume Ghostbusters handing out a variety of complimentary candy treats, and photo ops with “Slimer” and “Stay Puft Marshmallow Man” in the lobby, gave the enthusiastic crowd an authentic experience. A ginormous version of everyone’s favorite sticky ghost was stationed outside the entrance, along with a pair of Ectomobiles parked at the curb.
The event crackled with excitement, fun for the whole family. Costumes were encouraged and there were many Ghostbusters, pretty marshmallow ladies, and a few ghosts in the crowd. Cups of yummy lime slime were served at the concession counters, adding even more veritable flavor to this spectacular event.
The classic cult film was shown on a large screen, in full panoramic width, above the renowned Chicago orchestra, the live music absolutely enchanting. The Philharmonic was conducted by the stellar Peter Bernstein, son of the multi-Oscar winning composer Elmer Bernstein, author of the great original score. Special tribute was paid to the film’s director, the late great Ivan Reitman, who passed away February this year, and short videos shared fun facts about the famous movie. This was truly a night to remember.
The Auditorium Theatre plays host to a number of one-of-a-kind theatrical experiences. There is The Godfather Live, 50th Anniversary – again in conjunction with the Philharmonic – coming November 12th, as well as many exquisite dance performances; they have a friendly, customer-service oriented staff as well as accessible restrooms, ample parking nearby, hand sanitizer stations throughout, and comfortable seating. This historic house offers audience members these amenities that create a cultured and enjoyable night out. I simply can’t say enough positive things about the spirited Philharmonic, or Chi Phil, as they’re also known, recently adding 15 new members. The music this symphony brings is positively awe inspiring. Treat yourself to one of their most enjoyable concerts this holiday season – you won’t be disappointed.
