Auditorium Philms ‘Dracula’ Scary Good
By Nick Nicholas with Wes Hessel
Auditorium Theatre hosted the latest in the outstanding Auditorium Philms Concert Series, scaring up “Bram Stoker’s ‘Dracula’” for the ghost and goblins time of year. Playing the complete film with the musical score performed live by the Chicago Philharmonic, audiences were at the edge of their seats for the masterpiece about the most famous vampire. The Chicago Chamber Choir provided the vocal elements of composer Wojciech Kilar’s vaunted music.
The evening was hosted by none other than that grandmaster of ghouldom, Chicago’s own Svengoolie. He gave a haunting introduction to the movie about the story line and how the plot of the film evolved. The horror host was received delightedly by the audience, cracking wise in his indomitable style.
The last of the Philms series this year is coming up on December 7th at the Auditorium, when “‘Love Actually’ in Concert” will be presented for the holiday installment.
