February 2 – Storypalooza – Start your week off at the Library as we enjoy stories, songs, and rhymes together! Ages 0-5 with caregiver. 11:00-11:30 AM

February 3 – Sensory Playtime – Join us for sensory playtime! We will have different tactile and sensory experiences for young kids to learn and engage with together. Each week we will have different stations focused on the different senses. Ages 0-5 with caregiver. 11:00 AM – 12:00 PM

February 3 – Let’s Paint! – For artists of all levels. Grab your paint brushes and join Ms. Mariela for an afternoon of creative, colorful, paint-smeared fun! Grades 2-8. 5:00-6:30 PM

February 4 – Library Quilt & Sew Club – Join us for casual discussion about quilting and sewing projects and techniques. We embrace all skills and levels. 10:00 AM – 12:00 PM

February 4 – Build-a-Buddy – Stuff your very own animal buddy with a t-shirt, heart, and a certificate to take home! Registration is required. Ages 0-11. 5:00-6:00 PM

February 4 – Tech Help Drop-In – Come in to get your technology questions answered. Anything from smartphones to laptops, writing emails to installing apps. We’ve got you covered! 6:00-7:00 PM

February 4 – Getting Started with AI – Learn the basics of Artificial Intelligence (AI) tools such as ChatGPT and Apple Intelligence, and learn what they can do well and what they do poorly. Also learn how to spot AI-generated photos and videos and misinformation. 7:00-8:00 PM

February 5-7 – Magazine Giveaway – It’s that time of year where we get rid of last year’s editions to get ready for the new ones and instead of recycling them, we’re giving them away. Stop by the Library during open hours to grab a stack (or two!) of last year’s magazines. It’s all 100% FREE! 

February 5 – Perler Bead It! – Create different Perler bead designs. We’ll provide different Perler bead colors and tools to help you get started! Grades 3-12. 4:00-6:00 PM

February 6 – Scales-N-Tales Storytime – Start your Friday morning off at the library with a fun storytime all about animals. A new animal will be featured each week. Ages 0-5 with caregiver. 11:00-11:30 AM

February 6 – Game On – Take your gaming to the next level! Join our video game program to play new and classic games, participate in friendly competitions, and win prizes. Registration is strongly encouraged. Grades 6-12. 5:00-6:30 PM

February 7 – Take Your Child to the Library Day – Celebrate all that your library has to offer with Take Your Child to the Library Day! This year our theme is Puppets. Enjoy a morning program designed for younger children and an afternoon program designed for older children. Plus, play with puppets all day long! We will also be giving away free books and goodie bags. Enter into a raffle for a crocheted stuffed animal. Don’t forget to take a family photo as a keepsake at our puppet-themed photo op. 9:00 AM – 4:00 PM

February 9 – History Buffs Book Club – Join us to discuss a different book about history each month. Book selections may include histories, biographies, memoirs, and autobiographies. This month, we’re reading The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks by Rebecca Skloot. Copies of the book can be checked out at the Circulation Desk a month before the meeting date. Registration is required. 5:00-6:00 PM

February 9 – Sewn Valentine’s Day Pouches – Come make sweet little sewn felt Valentine’s Day pouches to give to that special someone…or just to friends or family! Adults only. Limit 20. Registration is required. 5:00-6:00 PM

February 10 – Rockin’ Tots – Dance, sing, and get rowdy in our music and movement toddler program! Ages 0-5 with caregiver. 11:00-11:30 AM

February 11 – Senior Cafe – Join us for coffee, some sweet treats, games, and conversation. Find out and enjoy what the library has to offer our seniors. 9:30-11:30 AM

February 11 – Teen Cuisine – Cook your own delicious meals and treats with us! Learn basic cooking skills and a delicious new recipe every meetup. This month, we’re making Red Velvet Cupcakes. All cooking skills are welcome. Registration is required. Grades 6-12. 4:30-5:30 PM

February 11 – Traditional Churros with Chef Violeta Trujeque – Looking for a unique way to celebrate Valentine’s Day? Join us for a delightful churro-making demonstration with Chef Violeta Trujeque, originally from Veracruz, Mexico and founder of Violet Velvet Cooking Classes. She will guide you step by step through the process of making churros from scratch and creating dipping sauces. While you watch, you’ll enjoy churro samples and leave with a full recipe to recreate the magic at home. Limit 30. Registration is required. 6:30-8:30 PM

February 12 – Polish Storytime – Join The Language Labs’ presenter, Bernadetta, as she teaches, sings songs, plays games, and offers crafts in Polish. Ages 2-8 with caregiver. 11:00-11:30 AM

February 12 – Kids & Krafts – Join us for fun and creative kids crafts where children can make hands-on projects to take home! Limit 24. Registration is required. Grades K & up. 5:00-6:00 PM

February 13 – Resource Round-Up: Library Catalog – You know the library has more than books and programs, but how do you access them? Join us each month to learn about a different library resource and how to use it. In February, we will cover how our library catalog works and how you can use it to do more than just locate a book on the shelf! 5:30-6:30 PM

February 14 – Passport Processing Event – Join representatives from the Village of Franklin Park’s Clerk’s Office at the Library for passport service hours. Appointments can be made by contacting the Clerk’s Office at 847-671-8242. Library staff are unable to book appointments for this service. February 14 – Knit & Crochet Group – Relax and work on a project or receive basic instruction from experienced crafters. New members are welcome, and basic supplies and tools are provided. 1:00-3:00 PM

Then this is the program for you! When you register, be sure to vote on which Anime you want to watch. Registration is required. Grades 6-12. 4:30-5:30 PM

February 16 – True Crime Brew Time Book Club – Do you have a morbid curiosity for true stories of murder, cults, kidnappings, & more? Explore the dark side of nonfiction while enjoying fresh brewed tea and snacks. This month, we’re discussing Nobody’s Girl: A Memoir of Surviving Abuse and Fighting for Justice by Virginia Giuffre. Copies of the book can be checked out at the Circulation Desk a month before the meeting date. Registration is strongly encouraged. 5:00-6:30 PM

February 17 – Job Searching with AI: A Presentation – Discover how artificial intelligence is transforming the job market and learn practical strategies to leverage these tools for your career success. 7:00-8:30 PM

February 18 – Spanish Storytime – Join The Language Labs as they bring Spanish Storytime to your Library! Enjoy stories, games, songs, and crafts in Spanish. Spanish speakers are encouraged to attend, but you do not have to be a current speaker to enjoy this program. Ages 2-8 with caregiver. 11:00-11:30 AM

February 18 – Pajama Storytime – Join us for a cozy goodnight storytime! Wear your PJs and bring your favorite stuffed animal. Ages 0-5 with caregiver. 6:00-6:30 PM

February 18 – Popular Page Turners Book Club – Join us monthly for an evening of engaging conversation about popular books. This month, we are discussing James: A Novel by Percival Everett. Copies of the book can be checked out at the Circulation Desk a month before the meeting date. Registration is required. 7:00-8:00 PM

February 19 – LEGO Librarians – Come and join the snap together squad as we build LEGO sets to decorate the library. From Star Wars, to Zelda, to dinosaur fossils, we’re excited to build all the crazy big LEGO sets that you’ve always dreamed of building. Registration is required. Ages 11 and up. 4:00-5:00 PM

February 19 – Kids STEM: Zipline – This month we are going to have fun with the science of ziplines! What can you make that will go down the zipline the fastest? Can you beat your friends in a race? Registration is required. Grades K-5. 5:00-6:00 PM

February 23 – Cook the Book Club – If you’ve ever wished that book clubs focused less on the book and more on the food, this is the club for you! Every month, each member will pick a recipe from a previously selected book to prepare and bring into the book club. This month’s book is Maangchi’s Big Book of Korean Cooking. The resulting potluck is the perfect opportunity to discuss the cookbook with others and try fun foods! Registration is required. 5:30-7:00 PM

February 24 – Tinker Tots – Get your wiggles out with a toddler playtime! Different toys and games will be available each session. Registration is required. Ages 0-5 with caregiver. 11:00 AM – 12:00 PM

February 24 – Escape the Enchanted Library – Do you think you can Escape the Enchanted Library? Grab your friends or your family and see! Only those who prove their wisdom may escape. Solve the library’s riddles, unlock the hidden passages, and uncover the final four-digit code before the last page turns… or remain trapped in the Enchanted Library forever! Registration is required. Grades 6-12. 5:00-7:00 PM

February 24 – Illinois Libraries Present: Still Afraid of the Dark: An Evening with R.L. Stine – Join us for this exciting conversation between The Guinness Book of World Records’ “most prolific author of children’s horror novels,” R.L. Stine and Becky Spratford, acclaimed horror maven and editor of Why I Love Horror: Essays on Horror Literature, to discuss his illustrious and still-expanding body of work. This is a virtual program that will be offered via Zoom. 7:00-8:00 PM

February 26 – Wintersown Seeds – Get a head start on your spring planting by making a small greenhouse from recycled materials! Once constructed, this greenhouse and its contents will sit outside through the rest of the winter. When you open it again in May or June, you’ll have sprouts ready for planting! Limit 20. Registration is required. 5:30-6:30 PM

February 27 – Friday Flicks – Join us each month to watch a newly released movie! This month’s movie is Cabrini (PG-13), starring Cristiana Dell’Anna, David Morse, Romana Maggiora Vergano, and John Lithgow. Refreshments will also be provided. 1:00-3:30 PM

February 27 – Teen Taste Test – Do you love snacks? Do you want to try snacks from different countries or snacks you’ve never heard of? Come and taste the snacks from around the world, talk about them, and rank them from liked to didn’t like. Registration is required. Grades 6-12.  4:30-5:30 PM
