December 1 – Soap Making – Get creative making homemade soap for the holidays. This soap could be an excellent gift for this holiday season. Limit 20. Registration is required. Grades 6-12 & adults. 5:00-6:00 PM

December 2 – Scales-N-Tales Storytime – Start your Friday morning off at the Library with a fun storytime all about animals. A new animal will be featured each week. There will also be some bilingual Spanish. Ages 0-5 with caregiver. 11:00-11:30 AM

December 3 – Meet the Author: Pascuala Herrera – Meet Franklin Park resident, educator, disability awareness advocate, and author Pascuala Herrera! Learn about her fascinating life and hear about her new book, Life is a Garden to Cultivate: The ABCs Towards a Better Life. She will be signing copies of her books afterwards, and copies will be available to purchase. 12:00-1:30 PM

December 5 – Chair Yoga – Chair Yoga classes are wonderful movement opportunities for any adult with limited mobility who wants to increase and maintain flexibility. Participate virtually with Susan Wilkens of Dancing Cranes Yoga in Riverside through Zoom or by phone. Registration is required. We will email you the Zoom & phone information the day before the program date. 3:00-4:00 PM

December 5 – Chess Club – Join us for lighthearted chess competition and instruction, if needed. Guaranteed to not be a stale(mate) evening! Grades 1 & up. 5:00-6:30 PM

December 6 – Tinker Tots – Get your wiggles out with a toddler playtime! Different toys and games will be available each week. Ages 0-5 with caregiver. 11:00 AM – 12:00 PM

December 7 – Library Quilt & Sew Club – Join us for casual discussion about quilting and sewing projects and techniques. We embrace all skills and levels. 10:00 AM – 12:00 PM

December 7 – Holiday Draw-Along – Draw your own holiday-themed cards to send to your favorite family members! Grades K-8. 5:00-6:30 PM

December 8 – Book Buddies – Grab a partner, read a book, discuss, draw, share a snack, and play a game (or have a dance party). Grades Preschool-8. 4:30-5:30 PM

December 9 – Creative Cocoa – Create and enjoy your own custom hot cocoa. Grades 3-12. 4:00-5:00 PM

December 10 – Holiday Centerpiece Craft – Join Peggy Garvin to make your own seasonal centerpiece with fresh evergreens and lovely holiday accents. All materials will be included. Please bring your own garden pruners. Limit 20. Registration is required. 11:00 AM – 1:00 PM

December 10 – Knit & Crochet Group – Relax and work on a project or receive basic instruction from experienced crafters. New members are welcome, and basic supplies and tools are provided. 1:00-3:00 PM

December 13 – Tech Tuesdays: Intro to iPhone, iPad, and iOS – Learn the basics of iOS on the iPhone and iPadOS on the iPad. Bringing your own device is encouraged. Limit 10. Registration is required. 2:00-3:30 PM

December 13 – ASL Club – Play games and have fun while learning the American Sign Language alphabet and simple words and phrases. 4:30-5:30 PM

December 13 – Tail Waggin’ Tutors – Practice your reading skills with Bailey, the Certified Therapy Dog. Be prepared for a kiss and cuddle from the 2-year-old Newfoundland! Grades Preschool-5. 5:30-6:45 PM

December 13 – Illinois Libraries Present: Midwest Baking with Shauna Sever – Join an online conversation with Shauna Sever, author of Midwest Made: Big, Bold Baking from the Heartland, as she celebrates baking this holiday season. This is a virtual program and will be offered via Zoom. This event is made possible by Illinois Libraries Present, a statewide collaboration among public libraries offering premier events. 7:00-8:00 PM

December 14 – Popular Page Turners Book Club – Join us monthly for an evening of engaging conversation about our favorite books and genres. This month, we’re discussing The City of Ember by Jeanne DuPrau. Copies of the book can be checked out at the Circulation Desk a month before the meeting date. Registration is required. 7:00-8:00 PM

December 15 – Crafter’s Corner – Is there a craft that you’ve always wanted to try? Or do you need some extra space for a craft that you’ve been working on? Drop in anytime and stay for however long you need. This program is crafting free time for teens and adults. 5:00-6:30 PM

December 16 – Friday Flicks – Join us each month to watch a newly released movie! This month’s movie is Top Gun: Maverick (PG-13) starring Tom Cruise, Jennifer Connelly, and Miles Teller. 1:00-3:15 PM

December 16 – Anime Club – Talk about all things anime and manga. Register to receive a copy of our club’s current manga. We’ll have anime-themed activities and a manga book discussion every meet-up. Grades 6-12. 4:30-5:45 PM

December 17 – Knit & Crochet Group – Relax and work on a project or receive basic instruction from experienced crafters. New members are welcome, and basic supplies and tools are provided. 1:00-3:00 PM

December 19 – Monday Nite Movie – See popular, award-winning animated features on the big screen and enjoy freshly-popped popcorn. This month, we’re showing The Grinch (PG). All ages. 5:00-6:30 PM

December 20 – Bon Appetit – Try your hand at cooking! See the tastes we have in store for your future chefs. Grades 3-6. 5:00-6:00 PM

December 20 – PJ Storytime – Get cozy, pop on your pajamas, and come in for an evening storytime with Miss Elizabeth. PJs are encouraged but not required. Ages 0-5 with caregiver. 6:00-6:30 PM

December 21 – Ultimate Taste Test Challenge – Challenge your taste buds and try store brand vs. name brand snacks. Can you taste the difference? Grades 3-12. 3:45-4:45 PM

December 27 – Tail Waggin’ Tutors – Practice your reading skills with Bailey, the Certified Therapy Dog. Be prepared for a kiss and cuddle from the 2-year-old Newfoundland! Grades Preschool-5. 3:00-4:30 PM

December 27 – Silly Science: The Science of Ice Cream – Put on your lab coats and learn the science behind ice cream, then make your own! Grades K-5. 4:30-5:30 PM

December 28 – Animal Quest Show – Lizards and rabbits and frogs – oh my! Come to an exotic animal show brought to you by Animal Quest – petting is allowed. Registration is required. Grades PreK-5 with caregiver. 3:00-4:00 PM

December 29 – Let’s Paint! – Grab your paint brushes and join Ms. Mariela for an afternoon of creative, colorful, paint-smeared fun. This program is appropriate for artists of all skill levels. Registration is required. Grades K-12. 3:30-5:00 PM

December 30 – Perler Bead It! – Create different Perler Bead designs. We’ll provide different Perler Bead colors and tools. Grades 3-12. 3:00-4:00 PM

Holiday Closings:

The Library will be closed on Saturday, December 24 & Monday, December 26 for the Christmas holidays. We will reopen at 10 AM on Tuesday, December 27, 2022.

The Library will be closed on Saturday, December 31 & Monday, January 2, 2023 for the New Years holidays. We will reopen at 10 AM on Tuesday, January 3, 2023.
