Northlight Theatre’s production of the serious drama “The Garbologists”, with its very many comedic moments, is highly entertaining and very touching. Once again Northlight gives us an excellent theatrical experience – this one act with its two-person cast of Tiffany Renee Johnson and Luigi Sottile chronicles the interesting relationship of two sanitation workers, both of whom completely love their young sons and have experienced significant loss regarding their little boys. The characters each have financial woe and look to the streets for some relief in the form of discarded items of value.
Danny is a seasoned nine-year veteran of the trash truck, and Marlowe, a rookie with an Ivy League education. The two characters couldn’t be more different, or are they? A prior shared life experience between the pair is revealed, giving this well-written and expertly directed theatrical work even more depth and warmth. The rapport and chemistry between the two actors is spot-on – the acting is phenomenal.
A very realistic set by Collette Pollard lays the stage beautifully for the story to unfold – Christmas lights and a snow projection add elements of charm to the scenes. One never knows what will be found in a person’s garbage, and the revelations prove to be very interesting. This production is recommended for mature audiences, and only runs now through October 2nd.
