Tank and the Bangas Hitting on All Cylinders

In their recent show at the Auditorium Theatre, two-time Grammy nominees Tank and The Bangas were in rare form – they put on an incredible live concert, of which the set list included many of their biggest hits, such as “Black Folk” and “Stolen Fruit”, and songs from their catalog, including “Mr. Lion” and “Date Night with Boys”. The crowd was electric, the full room invested from the beginning of the performance to the end, erupting in the loudest cheers at the end of each number.

Tarriona “Tank” Ball herself was outfitted in a gorgeous yellow floor length formal gown with a train and a beautiful diamond necklace, her hair swept into a beautiful bejeweled updo – she looked stunning, as if she was the brightest, shiniest sunbeam standing in the middle of the

stage. Her vocals are wonderful – unique, resonant, and rich, with such a versatile tonal quality,

vocal stamina, and flexibility. The Auditorium’s exceptional acoustics put the power of Tank’s exceptional voice on full display, carrying it through the rafters of the theatre.

Her backup singers also have such strong voices and complimented the leading lady’s vocals and sounds perfectly. The Chicago Philharmonic’s complete orchestra elevated Tank and The Bangas’ already exceptional unique blend of New Orleans-soaked soul, funk, jazz, and spoken word poetry to its highest form – it allowed the music to encapsulate a new and spectacular lushness, taking the already incredible sound, and making it that much more mellifluous and luxuriant. Such exceptional performances are not an exception at the Auditorium Theatre – for information on future events and tickets, please check out their website at www.auditoriumtheatre.org.
