Kane Repertory World Premiers “Security”
By Anna Hessel
Kane Repertory Theatre’s online production of “Security” by Hammaad Chaudry is a powerful production, realistic and thought-provoking. This two man show features three-time Golden Globe and Academy Award nominee Eric Roberts, who also happens to be the brother of actress Julia Roberts; talent clearly runs in the family. Eric delivers a flawless turn as Homeland Security agent Brian in a post 9/11 environment. Roberts gives his character layers of depth and realization; his portrayal is poignant and electrifying.
In the role of the British detainee is Harsh J. Gagoomal, who also is an amazing actor, giving an equally powerful performance, with a strong intensity expected of a young male with the cynicism of youth. The chemistry between the two actors is what gives this amazing theatrical work its bite. The verbal sparring is like that of a boxing match; fans of that sport will especially enjoy the references in the dialog.
The play is in two acts, with the set in the second act shadowed in the background, giving the production an air of intrigue. A surprise ending makes the work even more enlightening. “Security” is a not-to-be-missed stellar theatrical experience, streaming now through May 2nd.
