“Christmas at Pemberley” Glows With Good Cheer
By Anna Hessel
Northlight Theater’s production of “Georgiana and Kitty: Christmas at Pemberley” is simply fabulous. The third in the series, this play is a perfect addition to anyone’s holiday season. The sets are completely charming, complete with a pinecone and bow bedecked Christmas tree (a brand-new tradition in England at the time), and a stunning jumbo-sized wreath adorns the regal hallway. A piano is at the center of the stage throughout the performance but the tasteful decor does change to another excellent setting during intermission. The sumptuous costumes are elegant and merry with plenty of understated bling. Hairstyles and accessories are absolutely beautiful and perfectly period appropriate.
Characters are brought to life by stellar acting skills and exquisite direction. Sisterhood, brotherhood, family relations, marriage, and friendship are all front and center in this marvelous theatrical work. A flawless blend of drama and humor, this high energy show is an absolute pleasure to watch. “The Society of Female Musicians” is featured in the second act with a very surprising twist. Both the characters of Georgiana and Kitty show extraordinary talent, resilience, and very strong determination. The clear message of bolstering others (especially women), is completely appropriate, especially during the Christmas/Hanukkah/Kwanza season and most certainly keeping with Jane Austin’s style.
A happy ending to this delightful love story leaves the audience in a festive state. The production is complete with a lovely rendition of “Joy to the World” and snow, both adding to the festive feel of this resplendent production. Northlight Theater never disappoints: empowering, socially conscious, entertaining, thought-provoking theater at its finest. But the opportunity to enjoy a “Christmas at Pemberley” is only to be had until December 24th, so kindly visit www.northlight.org swiftly for tickets or more information.
