We are located at 10311 Grand Avenue in Franklin Park, IL and offer a range of services and programs for children, teens and adults. Further information is available at www.fppld.org or by calling 847-455-6016. Unless otherwise noted, registration is required for ALL library programs.

August 1 – Game On – Take your gaming to the next level. Join our video game program to play new and classic games, participate in friendly competitions, and win prizes. Grades 6-12. 5:00-6:30 PM

August 4 – Chair Yoga – Chair Yoga classes are wonderful movement opportunities for any adult with limited mobility who wants to increase and maintain flexibility. Participate virtually with Susan Wilkens of Dancing Cranes Yoga in Riverside through Zoom or by phone. Registration is required. We will email you the Zoom & phone information the day before the program date. 3:00-4:00 PM

August 4 – Perler Bead It! – Create different Perler bead designs. We’ll provide different Perler bead colors and tools to help you get started. Limit 20. Registration is required. Grades 3 & up. 4:00-6:00 PM

August 5 – Sensory Playtime – Join us for sensory playtime! We will have different tactile and sensory experiences for young kids to learn and engage with together. Each week we will have different stations focused on the different senses. Registration is required. Ages 0-5 with caregiver. 11:00 AM – 12:00 PM

August 5 – Sci-Fi & Fantasy Book Club – Join us as we read and discuss a different science fiction or fantasy novel each month. This month, we’re reading Babel by R.F. Kuang. 5:00-6:00 PM

August 6 – Library Quilt & Sew Club – Join us for casual discussion about quilting and sewing projects and techniques. We embrace all skills and levels. 10:00 AM – 12:00 PM

August 6 – Spanish Storytime – Join The Language Labs as they bring Spanish Storytime to your Library! Enjoy stories, games, songs, and crafts in Spanish. Spanish speakers are encouraged to attend, but you do not have to be a current speaker to enjoy this program! Limit 40. Registration is required. Ages 2-8. 11:00-11:30 AM

August 6 – LEGO Librarians – Come and join the snap together squad as we build LEGO sets to decorate the library. From Star Wars, to Zelda, to dinosaur fossils, we’re excited to build all the crazy big LEGO sets that you’ve always dreamed of building. Ages 11 & up. 4:00-6:00 PM

August 7 – Tech Thursday: Google Drive Basics – Learn the basics of Google Drive and the Google Docs suite of productivity software, featuring Google Docs, Google Sheets and Google Slides. 3:00-4:30 PM

August 9 – Friends of the Library Meeting – The Friends of the Library support the Franklin Park Library by providing volunteer services, sponsoring events, and funding programs. New members are always welcome! 10:30-11:30 AM

August 9 – Knit & Crochet Group – Relax and work on a project or receive basic instruction from experienced crafters. New members are welcome, and basic supplies and tools are provided. 1:00-3:00 PM

August 11 – Mat Yoga – This is the class for you if you’ve never done yoga, if you want to get back to yoga, or if you want to explore familiar postures in a different way. Participate virtually through Zoom with Susan Wilkens of Dancing Cranes Yoga in Riverside. Registration is required. We will email you the Zoom information the day before the program date. 3:00-4:00 PM

August 11 – Read to a Dog – Join Ms. Maria-Elena and her therapy dog, Joey, for a 1-on-1 reading session. Sign up is first-come, first-served. Limit 15. Grades K-5. 4:00-6:00 PM

August 11 – History Buffs Book Club – Join us to discuss a different book about history each month. Book selections may include histories, biographies, memoirs, and autobiographies. This month, we’re reading The Talented Mrs. Mandelbaum: The Rise and Fall of an American Organized-Crime Boss by Margalit Fox. 5:00-6:00 PM

August 11 – Slime Time – Kids can mix, stretch, and squish their very own custom slime creations. All materials provided. You just bring your imagination! Registration is required. Grades K-5. 5:00-6:00 PM

August 12 – Rockin’ Tots – Dance, sing, and get rowdy during our music and movement toddler program! Registration is required. Ages 0-5 with caregiver. 11:00 AM – 12:00 PM

August 13 – Teen Cuisine – Cook your own delicious meals and treats with us! Learn basic cooking skills and a delicious new recipe every meetup. All cooking skills are welcome. Limit 15. Registration is required. Grades 6-12. 4:30-5:30 PM

August 14 – The Write Stuff – This writers’ workshop is a place where you can bring works in progress, push through writer’s block, or get started on something entirely new. Open to beginner and experienced writers alike, all are welcome to join. Each session will start with a prompt or activity, followed by time for free writing and sharing your work with others. Teens & Adults. 5:00-6:00 PM

August 14 – Ready, Set, Game – Join us for an open gaming club with snacks! Come play retro and new video games, sometimes even board or card games. Registration is required. Grades 2-5. 5:00-6:30 PM

August 15 – Graphic Novel Book Club – Do you like reading comics, graphic novels, and manga? Join us as we read different books, play games, and do activities based on them. Then, help us vote on which book we read next time. Registration is required. Grades 3-8. 4:30-5:30 PM

August 16 – Craft Supply Swap – Are you a crafty person? Are you new to crafting? Do you need just enough of a certain supply to finish off a craft project you’re working on? Come and search through the large selection of various craft supplies on display and take whatever you like. Best of all…it’s all free! Plastic bags will be available, but feel free to bring your own bags to take your stash home, too. 9:00 AM – 12:00 PM

August 16 – Friends of the Library Book Sale – Looking for great deals on new or gently used books, CDs, and DVDs? Join the Friends in the Library by the in-house book sale for a special, expanded book sale. You can also buy a reusable Friends tote bag full of materials for $5! 11:00 AM – 2:00 PM

August 16 – Supa Awesome Dog Man Bash – Come celebrate all things Dog Man! We’ll have games and activities, and a chance to win prizes! Limit 50. Registration is required. Ages 7- 12. 2:00-3:00 PM

August 19 – Flirty Fiction Romance Book Club – Are you a defender of the HEA (“happily ever after”)? Join us to read a different romance book each month, talk about our favorite tropes, and find some new ones! This month, we’re talking about A Touch of Darkness by Scarlett St. Clair. 5:30-7:30 PM

August 22 – Teen Taste Test – Do you love snacks? Do you want to try snacks from different countries or snacks you’ve never heard of? We’ll taste the snacks, talk about them, and rank them from liked to didn’t like. Limit 15. Registration is required. Grades 6-12. 4:30-5:30 PM

August 25 – Cook the Book Club – If you’ve ever wished that book clubs focused less on the book and more on the food, this is the club for you! Every month, each member will pick a recipe from a previously selected book to prepare and bring into the book club. The resulting potluck is the perfect opportunity to discuss the cookbook with others and try fun foods! Registration is required. 5:00-6:30 PM

August 26 – Tinker Tots – Get your wiggles out with a toddler playtime! Different toys and games each week. Registration is required. Ages 0-5 with caregiver. 11:00 AM – 12:00 PM

August 26 – Introduction to Water Bath Canning – Join cookbook author and food preservation expert Emily Paster for a demonstration on water-bath canning, a safe and easy method of preserving fruits and vegetables. Emily will demonstrate the entire process of canning fruit spreads and vegetable pickles for shelf-stability as well as answer any questions that may arise about equipment, safety concerns and troubleshooting. 7:00-8:30 PM

August 27 – Bon Appetit – Try your hand at cooking! Come to the library and see the tastes we have in store for your future chefs. Limit 20. Registration is required. Grades K-5. 5:00-6:00 PM

August 27 – Popular Page Turners Book Club – Join us monthly for an evening of engaging conversation about popular books. This month, we are discussing The Heaven & Earth Grocery Store by James McBride. Copies of the book can be checked out at the Circulation Desk a month before the meeting date. Registration is required. 7:00-8:00 PM

August 28 – Tech Thursday: iPhone and Android Basics – Learn how to take full advantage of your phone or tablet, with tips and tricks that will turn you into an expert! 3:00-4:30 PM

August 28 – Ready, Set, Game – Join us for an open gaming club with snacks! Come play retro and new video games, sometimes even board or card games. Registration is required. Grades 2-5. 5:00-6:30 PM

August 29 – Friday Flicks – Join us each month to watch a newly released movie! This month’s movie is Reagan (PG-13), starring Dennis Quaid, Penelope Ann Miller, Jon Voight. Refreshments will also be provided. 1:00-3:30 PM
