Joffrey Closes Season With A Classic
By Sydney Milligan and Anna Hessel
The world-renowned Joffrey Ballet closes this season with a stellar production of Don Quixote. The scenic and lighting design by Jack Mehler is top notch and transports you right into Don Quixote’s 16th century Spain. An amazing world of love, valor and delusion is seen in the backdrops of sun-drenched cobblestone streets, and also view the magical deep blue forest Don Quixote visits in his dreams. The musical score is extremely high-energy and upbeat, with flamenco Spanish and Latin sounds.
The costumes by Travis Halsey are stunning: red and gold matador outfits, jewel tone frocks with fans, a sparkling white wedding suit, and fairy costumes which looked like crystals, champagne bubbles, and crystalline fresh-fallen snow.
The orchestra is conducted beautifully by Maestro Scott Speck. Impeccable comic timing, stellar dance moves, and graceful lifts make this production simply magical. For tickets or information on this show or the next season’s schedule, please visit www.joffrey.org.
