October 1 – Rockin’ Tots – Dance, sing, and get rowdy during our music and movement toddler program! Ages 0-5 with caregiver. 11:00-11:30 AM

October 1– Let’s Paint! – Grab your paint brushes and join Ms. Mariela for an evening of creative, colorful, paint-smeared fun! For artists of all levels. Grades K-8. 5:00-6:30 PM

October 2 – Library Quilt & Sew Club – Join us for casual discussion about quilting and sewing projects and techniques. We embrace all skills and levels. 10:00 AM – 12:00 PM

October 2 – ASL Club – Learn American Sign Language! Play games and have fun while you learn the ASL alphabet and simple words and phrases. All ages. 4:30-5:30 PM

October 3 – All About Bees – Did you know Franklin Park was named Bee City, USA? See real bees up close! Hear from the Village of Franklin Park’s own beekeeper, Monika Suryovich, on the importance of bees in the community, and then enjoy a story and craft. Grades K-5. 5:00-6:00 PM

October 4 – Scales-N-Tales Storytime – Start your Friday morning off at the library with a fun storytime all about animals. A new animal will be featured each week. Ages 0-5 with caregiver. 11:00-11:30 AM

October 4 – Drop-in Tech Help – Come in to get your technology questions answered. Anything from smartphones to laptops, writing emails to installing apps. We’ve got you covered! Teens & Adults. 4:00-6:00 PM

October 4 – Crafter’s Corner – Is there a craft that you’ve always wanted to try? Or do you need some extra space for a craft that you’ve been working on? This program is crafting free time for all ages. 5:00-6:00 PM

October 5 – Knit & Crochet Group – Relax and work on a project or receive basic instruction from experienced crafters. New members are welcome, and basic supplies and tools are provided. 1:00-3:00 PM

October 7 – Chair Yoga – Chair Yoga classes are wonderful movement opportunities for any adult with limited mobility who wants to increase and maintain flexibility. Participate virtually with Susan Wilkens of Dancing Cranes Yoga in Riverside through Zoom or by phone. Registration is required. We will email you the Zoom & phone information the day before the program date. 3:00-4:00 PM

October 7 – Halloween Movie & Pumpkin Painting – Join us at the Library as we watch Coraline (PG) and paint pumpkins! Each participant will get their very own 6 inch pumpkin and paint supplies. Grades 6-12. 4:30-6:30 PM

October 8 – Tinker Tots – Get your wiggles out with a toddler playtime! Different toys and games each week. Ages 0-5 with caregiver. 11:00 AM – 12:00 PM

October 8 – Goodnight Storytime – Join us each month for a cozy Goodnight Storytime. Come dressed in your comfy clothes and bring your favorite stuffie! Ages 0-5 with caregiver. 6:00-7:00 PM

October 9 – Illinois Libraries Present: Being Imperfect with Erika Sánchez – Celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month with a special virtual event featuring Erika Sánchez, award-winning author of I Am Not Your Perfect Mexican Daughter. This is a virtual program that will be offered via Zoom. 7:00-8:00 PM

October 9 – The Art of Sushi with Jen Paleracio – Join culinary instructor Jen Paleracio to learn how to make a California Roll with nori, rice, crabmeat, cucumber, avocado, and sesame seeds, and a Salmon Roll with smoked salmon, cucumber, carrots, avocado, and spicy mayo. The class aims to be fun and informative for all levels of sushi enthusiasts. Adults only. Registration is required. Limit 30. 7:00-8:30 PM

October 10 – Ready, Set, Game! – Join us for an open gaming club with snacks! Come play retro and new video games, sometimes even board or card games. Grades 2-5. 5:00-6:30 PM

October 11 – Scales-N-Tales Storytime – Start your Friday morning off at the library with a fun storytime all about animals. A new animal will be featured each week. Ages 0-5 with caregiver. 11:00-11:30 AM

October 11 – Teen Cuisine – Cook your own delicious meals and treats with us! Learn basic cooking skills and a delicious new recipe every meetup. All cooking skills are welcome. Grades 6-12. 5:00-6:00 PM

October 12 – Friends of the Library Book Sale – Looking for great deals on new or gently used books, CDs, and DVDs? Join the Friends in the Library by the in-house book sale for a special, expanded book sale. You can also buy a reusable Friends tote bag full of materials for $5! 11:00 AM – 2:00 PM

October 14 – Skills Toolkit Presentation – Join our presenter, Zuri, as she offers presentations on various skills related to finding a job. This presentation is on interview tips and prep. Mock interviews, information on navigating new interview and hiring processes, and important interview tactics will be covered. Teens & Adults. 7:00-8:00 PM

October 15 – Flirty Fiction Romance Book Club – Are you a defender of the HEA (“happily ever after”)? Join Flirty Fiction Book Club where we’ll read a different romance book each month, talk about our favorite tropes, and find some new ones! 5:30-7:30 PM

October 16 – Bon Appetit – Try your hand at cooking! Come to the library and see the tastes we have in store for your future chefs. Grades 3-6. 5:00-6:00 PM

October 16 – Popular Page Turners Book Club – Join us monthly for an evening of engaging conversation about popular books. This month, we are discussing The Family Upstairs by Lisa Jewell. Copies of the book can be checked out at the Circulation Desk a month before the meeting date. Registration is required. 7:00-8:00 PM

October 17 – Kids & Krafts – Each month we’ll do a different craft. All supplies will be provided. Ages 3-12 with caregiver. 5:00-6:00 PM

October 18 – Game ON+ – Take your gaming to the next level. Join our video game program to play new and classic games. Participate in friendly competitions and win prizes. Grades 6-12. 5:00-6:30 PM

October 19 – Skills Toolkit 1-on-1 Sessions – Want to build your resume, learn about interview tips, get help on your job search, get essay support, homework help, and more? Book a one-on-one session with Zuri to get the help you need on your career journey. Teens & Adults. 10:00 AM – 3:00 PM

October 19 – Friends of the Library Meeting – The Friends of the Library support the Franklin Park Library by providing volunteer services, sponsoring events, and funding programs. New members are always welcome! 10:30-11:30 AM

October 21 – Incredible Bats: Animals Around the World – Incredible Bats are BACK! This time Sharon and Dan Peterson will be bringing some of their amazing animals from around the world for us to see and learn about including fruit bats, sugar gliders, a wooly possum, hedgehog, rabbit, armadillo, fennec fox, skunk, gecko, bearded dragon, ball python, an Amazon parrot, AND a sloth. All ages. 5:00-6:00 PM

October 22 – Illinois Libraries Present: Raise Your Voice with Jason Reynolds – Join us for a special virtual event with Jason Reynolds, #1 New York Times bestselling author, advocate, mentor, and 2020-2022 National Ambassador for Young People’s Literature. This is a virtual program that will be offered via Zoom. 7:00-8:00 PM

October 23 – Paranormal Investigating Basics – Come and enjoy learning the basics of paranormal investigating from Carl Crooks of Quantum Paranormal Investigators. Learn about the equipment and the dos & don’ts of how to conduct an investigation in an appropriate way. You will also learn about well-known haunted locations in the Chicago area and the State of Illinois and experience evidence from some of those locations. 6:30-8:00 PM

October 28 – Special Effects Makeup: Burns – Come get your spooky on! Learn how to make realistic burns to impress your friends and finish off your Halloween costume. Watch a demonstration of different burn techniques and then try some on yourself. *Warning for latex allergies.* Teens & Adults. 5:00-6:00 PM

October 30 – Library Haunted House – You won’t want to miss our annual Halloween Haunted House! This year’s theme… ALIENS. Don’t forget to come dressed in your Halloween costume! All Ages. 5:00-7:00 PM
