It was a full house for the opening night of the Lyric Opera’s season with Verdi’s classic “Rigoletto” – excitement and electric energy reigned. Directed by Mary Birnbaum, in her Lyric debut, is this story of desire, vengeance, and tragedy. Igor Golovatenko is incredible as Rigoletto in a heart-breaking performance; soprano Mane Galton sings stupendously, hitting the high notes of the title character’s innocent daughter Gilda.

Tenor Javier Canarena’s Duke of Mantua is astounding in his rendition of “La donna è mobile” to Maddalena (the amazing Zoie Reams). Sparafucile, as played by Solomon Howard, commands the stage upon entering with his resonating voice – he takes your breath away. Lyric’s Music Director Enrique Mazzola once again demonstrates he is conductor extraordinaire, the maestro in his element. He does not miss a beat, his entire being imbued in batoning. This and more adds up to a wonderful production not to be missed; for tickets or more information, please visit www.lyricopera.org
