January 4 – Library Quilt & Sew Club – Join us for casual discussion about quilting and sewing projects and techniques. We embrace all skills and levels. 10:00 AM – 12:00 PM
January 4 – Friends of the Library Meeting – The Friends support the Franklin Park Library by providing volunteer services, sponsoring events, and funding programs. New members are always welcome! 6:00-7:30 PM
January 5 – Maker Mania – Calling all crafty kids! Get those creative minds cranking with a special craft. Grades K-3. 4:00-5:00 PM
January 6 – Game ON+ – Join our video game program to play new and classic games. We’ll also have board games and refreshments ready! Grades 6-12. 4:00-6:30 PM
January 9 – Chair Yoga – Chair Yoga classes are wonderful movement opportunities for any adult with limited mobility who wants to increase and maintain flexibility. Participate virtually with Susan Wilkens of Dancing Cranes Yoga in Riverside through Zoom or by phone. Registration is required. We will email you the Zoom & phone information the day before the program date. 3:00-4:00 PM
January 9 – Graphic Novel Book Club – Looking for your next favorite book? Want to meet some new friends and talk about books? Join us at the library where we will be reading a new graphic novel each session! A copy of the book will be provided for sign-ups while supplies last. Grades 3-6. 4:30-5:30 PM
January 9 – Chess Club – Join us for lighthearted chess competition and instruction, if needed. Guaranteed to not be a stale(mate) evening! Grades 1 & up. 5:00-6:30 PM
January 10 – Tinker Tots – Get your wiggles out with a toddler playtime! Different toys and games will be available each week. Ages 0-5 with caregiver. 11:00 AM – 12:00 PM
January 10 – Tech Tuesdays: Intro to Our Digital Library – Learn about the free digital services that come with a Franklin Park Library card. From research and homework help to eBooks and movies, we will go over everything that we offer to you! Bringing your own device is encouraged. 2:00-3:30 PM
January 10 – Kids’ Spanish – Join our beginning Spanish club for kids and their families. Play games, sample treats, and have fun! Grades K-5. 5:00-6:00 PM
January 11 – Bon Appetit – Try your hand at cooking! See the tastes we have in store for your future chefs. Grades 3-6. 5:00-6:00 PM
January 11 – Illinois Libraries Present: Inciting Joy: A Conversation with Ross Gay – Join an online conversation with Ross Gay, American poet and New York Times best-selling essayist, as he kicks off a new year with his new book, Inciting Joy. This is a virtual program and will be offered via Zoom. This event is made possible by Illinois Libraries Present, a statewide collaboration among public libraries offering premier events. 7:00-8:00 PM
January 13 – Anime Club Presents: Make Your Own Bento Box – Learn how to turn your basic lunch into an adorable, yummy piece of art straight from Studio Ghibli or your favorite anime. Bring your appetites and creativity to make a Japanese food staple, while listening to some anime tunes. Grades 6-12. 4:30-6:00 PM
January 14 – Knit & Crochet Group – Relax and work on a project or receive basic instruction from experienced crafters. New members are welcome, and basic supplies and tools are provided. 1:00-3:00 PM
January 16 – Sweet Treat Storytime – Come to this fun family storytime where we will read holiday-themed stories, sing songs, and make sweet story-themed treats to eat! 5:00-6:30 PM
January 17 – ASL Tots – Babies and toddlers can learn helpful phrases that will benefit them during this this fun and interactive American Sign Language (ASL) club. Ages 0-4 with caregiver. 11:00 AM – 12:00 PM
January 17 – Doodle Games – Spark your creativity and play fun drawing games with us. We’ll play games such as Paper Telephone, Exquisite Corpse, and more. All drawing skill levels are welcome. Grades 6-12. 4:00-5:00 PM
January 17 – Tail Waggin’ Tutors – Practice your reading skills with Bailey, the Certified Therapy Dog. Be prepared for a kiss and cuddle from the 2-year-old Newfoundland! Grades Preschool-5. 5:00-6:30 PM
January 18 – Trading Card Club – Bring your Pokemon, Yugioh, Magic the Gathering, or other trading cards to play. Grades 6-12. 4:30-6:00 PM
January 18 – Popular Page Turners Book Club – Join us monthly for an evening of engaging conversation about our favorite books and genres. This month, we’re discussing Before the Coffee Gets Cold by Toshikazu Kawaguchi. Copies of the book can be checked out at the Circulation Desk a month before the meeting date. Registration is required. 7:00-8:00 PM
January 19 – ASL Club – Play games and have fun while learning the American Sign Language alphabet and simple words and phrases. All ages. 4:30-5:30 PM

January 25 – Little Performers – Do you have the acting bug? Play popular improv games and perform short plays. Grades K-5. 4:30-5:30 PM
January 26 – Teen Cuisine – Cook your own delicious meals and treats with us! Learn basic cooking skills and a delicious new recipe every meetup. All cooking skills are welcome. Grades 6-12. 4:00-5:30 PM
January 27 – Scales-N-Tales Storytime – Start your Friday morning off at the Library with a fun storytime all about animals. A new animal will be featured each week. There will also be some bilingual Spanish. Ages 0-5 with caregiver. 11:00-11:30 AM
January 27 – Friday Flicks – Join us each month to watch a newly released movie! This month’s movie is Where the Crawdads Sing (PG-13) starring Daisy Edgar-Jones, Taylor John Smith and David Strathairn. 1:00-3:05 PM
January 27 – Anime Club – Calling all anime fans! Enjoy all things anime and manga with us. Participate in fun anime themed activities, games, and crafts. Meet with other anime enthusiasts and join our manga/anime discussions. Grades 6-12. 4:30-5:45 PM

January 30 – Monday Nite Movie – See popular, award-winning animated features on the big screen and enjoy freshly-popped popcorn. This month, we’re showing Turning Red (PG). All ages. 5:00-6:30 PM

January 31 – YA Book Club – Interested in reading different genres within YA and possibly making a friend or two? Come to our virtual Discord book club where we read a YA book each month and discuss what we liked and didn’t like about the book without having to leave the comfort of home. From Mystery, to Fantasy, to Manga, to Nonfiction, we plan on touring the whole YA section. Grades 6-12. 4:00-5:00 PM
January 31 – PJ Storytime – Get cozy, pop on your pajamas, and come in for an evening storytime with Miss Elizabeth. PJs are encouraged but not required. Ages 0-5 with caregiver. 6:00-6:30 PM
January 31 – Estate Planning Tips & Pitfalls – Estate planning is not just for retirees or the wealthy. It is important to ensure that your family and your assets are safe when you are gone and that your wishes are honored; yet, many people put off estate planning or forget to do it altogether. Join Barrett Pedersen, Attorney at Law, as he discusses the different elements of estate planning, including living wills, trusts, and powers of attorney. 6:30-7:30 PM
Holiday Closings:
The Library will be closed on Monday, January 2, 2023 for the New Years holiday. We will reopen at 10:00 AM on Tuesday, January 3, 2023.
