“Christmas Carol” Shimmers With Holiday Hope By: Anna Hessel

| December 17, 2020

During this rather tremulous holiday season, Writers Theatre’s “One-Man A Christmas Carol” glimmers with the promise that live theater is going to weather the storm and hope is never really faraway. Dickens’ Christmas classic, with a simplistic but stunning set, wonderful photographic and video images, brings to fruition the cast of characters with clarity and realism.

Each of the very unique characterizations are brought to life, separated only by the artistic genius of Michael Halberstam. Michael’s use of sophisticated nuances is executed with precise perfection. Dressed elegantly in a dark suit and rhinestone collared shirt with a sparkling silver necktie, he shines with effervescent talent. A simple turn of his head, vocal inflection, or subtle movement transforms Mr. Halberstam into the plethora of Dickens’ individuals. Michael is absolutely believable and awe inspiring in each portrayal.

This virtual one man production is a must see holiday play; it brings the excellence one has come to expect from Writers Theatre into your own living room. The message of charitable selflessness over greed and judge mental attitudes rings clear throughout the video, a much needed balm for weary souls this holiday season. “God bless us, everyone…” “One-Man A Christmas Carol” runs through January 3rd; for tickets or more information, see their website at www.writerstheatre.org
