Greektown Chicago, in conjunction with the Chicago Greektown Educational Foundation, has begun a display of new takes on those classic pieces of amphorae, Greek urns. 31 (no, Baskin-Robbins is not a sponsor) of these creations by local artists, as well as student groups from high schools and Greek instructional institutions, were debuted in the space at the south end of Greektown at the corner of Halsted and Van Buren, in the appropriately named Elysian Field.

The interpretations are detailed in relief with vines and floral accents, hand painted to depict persons, places, or things inspired by Greek culture and concepts. These sculptures will be on view along the Halsted strip of the Hellenic neighborhood until May of next year, so make a point to go see the vibrant colors and bold works on these tall shapes.
