Chicago Tap Very Live at the Den

| March 5, 2025

By Nick Nicholas with Wes Hessel

Chicago Tap Theatre at the Den was a ideal marriage – their most recent performance in a breathtaking old Chicago style theatre complex stepping back in time with so much architectural detail and a lounge right next to it, in an arts performance entertainment neighbourhood nestled in what may well have been a speakeasy in a time warp of the golden era of the Roaring 20’s, lent itself well to the material.

Chicago Tap Theatre’s latest performance showcased the skill, talent, and dexterity of its eight members tapping to live jazz scores and period music, transporting us with flair and exuberant well-choreographed tapping solos, duets and group numbers, taking us through their tapping to another place and time. The amount of work these dancers put into this shows a natural build, confident with lots of personality and humor. Their passion for tap was incomparable as all were very skilled in an intimate, delightfully intentional way, competitive with one another, making for charming performances.

A high energy show of Chicago Tap Theatre, keeping tap dance alive and vibrant right here in Chicago, and offering classes for all levels and ages. What an opportunity they are giving us in keeping tapping alive. Check it all out at the website www.chicagotaptheatre.com.
