“Old Lace” Has New Twist

By Anna Hessel

Court Theatre’s stellar production of the classic madcap work “Arsenic and Old Lace” is the by far best production I have seen of this play.  Audiences will recall the classic film starring Cary Grant.  The murderously amusing tale is of two spinster sisters whom have secrets in the cellar, and their nephew, whose very noble profession of theater critic is frowned upon by the aunts.

The entire cast has impeccable comic timing and they keep the laughs rolling along with ease.  This farcical dark comedy, with its charming set, wacky bevy of characters, and strategic use of lighting design is not to be missed – slapstick at its finest.  It can easily be referred to as hysterically funny, uproarious, and side splitting.  There is nothing better than a good comedy in tumultuous times, and this show is a true balm for weary souls.  The directing and sound engineering are also flawless, as we have come to expect from Court Theatre productions – they never disappoint and always deliver.  But the hilarity only lasts until October 2nd, so for tickets or more information, please go to www.courttheatre.org.
