Northlight’s Production Is A “Dear” One

Northlight Theatre’s refreshing production of Ken Ludwig’s “Dear Jack, Dear Louise” tells his parent’s poignant love story; it is the charming courtship by correspondence of would-be actress/dancer/showgirl Louise Rabiner and Captain Dr. Jacob S. Ludwig. What lonely soldier wouldn’t want a letter from a Broadway-bound beauty?
This romantic comedy with serious dramatic moments is a balm for the soul in these turbulent times. Set during World War II, this wonderfully vintage play is simply timeless. While our world struggles with disease, war, anti-Semitism and other racism, this show touches one’s heart with laughter and warmth. Two loving small town Jewish families, including a bevy of aunts, determined to make a match, fuel the letter writing frenzy of Jack (Casey Hoekstra) and Louise (Sarah Price). This two-person theatrical work, with its stellar acting, priceless rapport, and exemplary direction by Jessica Fisch, is an absolute winner.
Making her Northlight debut is set designer Yeaji Kim – her delightful scenery transports the audience to the early 1940’s with an exceptionally lovely backdrop and realistic period furnishings. Costume designer Izumi Inaba creates a splendid wardrobe of captivating ensembles. Jackie Fox’s lighting design and Eric Backus’ soundscape are both exquisite, adding to the overall perfection of the production. I highly recommend “Dear Jack, Dear Louise” – you will leave the theater encouraged, edified, and entertained. It only runs until August 7th, so please visit www.northlight.org for tickets or more information.
