Dial M for Marvelous
By Cate Rees-Hessel
Oil Lamp Theater’s production of “Dial M for Murder” is one of the best versions of this classic play I have seen. It is brilliantly directed, with stellar attention to details. The show adapts well to an intimate setting, relying on the enormously talented cast to set the atmosphere. The stage scenic design is beautiful, with the well-crafted props and set pieces that we have come to expect from this charming venue. I am extremely impressed with the use of lighting, especially at the climatic end.
The suspense is thrilling, as well as extremely entertaining. Expertly timed action is well paced and believable, the actors breaking the fourth wall with ease, bringing the audience into the happenings. No review of this theatrical work would be complete without a mention of the sophisticated, era appropriate, and timeless costumes, hairstyles, and makeup. This is a must see show at Glenview’s gem of a theater.
