Oil Lamp Presents Beloved Holiday Classic

Oil Lamp Theater’s rendition of “It’s a Wonderful Life, a Live Radio Play” is delightful. I love the realistic 1940’s radio studio, complete with believable quirks. Costumes are period-perfect and attractive – the innovative use of hats to define characters is extremely well executed, combined with an enormously talented cast that handles the varied roles with professional ease. Often when adults are playing children, the results are less than credible, but this troupe brings George and Mary Bailey’s offspring to life with accuracy and marvelous humor.

Old time commercials, sung to the tune of Christmas carols, are hilarious and nostalgic. A beautiful acapella version of “Silent Night” is both touching and sincere, perfect for the intimate atmosphere of this cozy venue. “It’s a Wonderful Life, a Live Radio Play” is a sublime holiday escape, a Merry Christmas for the soul. I love the entire experience of this charming storefront theater, with it’s comfortable bar and lobby complete with fresh chocolate chip cookies and a friendly staff. Professional live theater at its finest, Oil Lamp is truly Glenview’s gem. But their “Wonderful Life” will go off the air December 28th, so please tune in to www.oillamptheater.org for tickets or more information.
